Review | L’Oreal Sublime Soft Gentle Micellar Solution vs. Bioderma

Review | L’Oreal Sublime Soft Gentle Micellar Solution vs. Bioderma

We all have those products that we can’t live without. For me, it is (or at least, it used to be) Bioderma. Bioderma is a makeup remover that is suitable for sensitive skin. I really like this product because it really removes all of your makeup — eyeliner, mascara, the whole deal.

I especially like Bioderma to remove every trace of foundation — sometimes a makeup wipe is not enough! I also like to use Bioderma in the morning after I wake up to remove the oils on my face that have somehow accumulated while sleeping.

Bioderma is great, but it is quite pricy. For a 250 mL bottle, you pay $21.95 CAD. For a product that I use daily and go through so quickly, that is a lot! Thankfully, I’ve found an alternative.

I recently picked up the L’Oreal Sublime Soft Gentle Micellar Solution. This product works exactly the same as Bioderma. The only difference that I was able to detect was the scent. The L’Oreal product has a bit of a funky scent (even though it claims to be scentless), whereas Bioderma truly is fragrance free.

I bought the L’Oreal solution from Walmart for $9.96 CAD. You do get less product than Bioderma (200 mL vs. 250 mL), but when you do the math, you are still paying less for the L’Oreal solution (5 cents per mL for the L’Oreal solution vs. 9 cents per mL for Bioderma). The difference is minimal, but for a product that I use everyday, the cost adds up.

I’m happy that I finally found an alternative to Bioderma. :) What do you use to remove your makeup?

Thanks for the review! I’ve been using Avon’s cream eye makeup remover for years, but it doesn’t work so well on my new MAC liquid eyeliner and the girls at MAC recommended an oil one. So I think I’ll definitely check this out!

I find that with the L’Oreal and Bioderma cleansers, I’ll have to soak the solution in a cotton pad, leave it on the eye for a few seconds and then it will get my eye makeup off for the most part. But if your eyeliner is waterproof, an oil does works a lot better! The MAC one is pricy, but there is one by the Sephora brand that does a great job too :)

I’m dying to try the Bioderma cleansers!!! Any idea where you can pick it up in Canada? I can never find them when I go makeup shopping :( ps love the comparison review!

You can find Bioderma at Rexall and Shoppers Drug Mart :) Let me know what you think when you’re able to get a hold of it!

I use the Sephora Triple Action Cleansing Water ($25 CAD for 13.5oz), which I hear is a dupe for Bioderma. It takes off all my makeup (except waterproof mascara but it might do that too if I hold the cotton pad longer) and I really like it.

Ooo good to know! I may have to try that one out! Sounds like pretty good value too.

I don’t like the scent of the L’Oreal one either, but it does do a similar job of removing oils as Bioderma, but I have a feeling that when I am done my bottle of L’Oreal, I will stick with Bioderma!

I don’t blame you! The price difference is very minimal. :)
