My June Favourites
I thought I’d wrap up my final post of this month with my favourites for the month of June. I also thought I’d sneak in one of my not-so favourite items into my list as well. Before you begin reading, do you think you can guess what my June “miss” is?
The Hits
1. Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Bright Blue
If you’ve been reading my blog from the beginning, you’ll already know that I love the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal eyeliners. I love these eyeliners so much, that I needed to try it out in other colours. Bright Blue was a colour that I had my eyes on, but I was never able to track it down in Canada… in fact, I’m not even sure if that shade is available here! I saw it on the Rimmel website, so it’s always caught my attention.
One day, ASOS was having a sale, so I decided to pick this colour up. I am SO glad I did! This colour on the waterline makes brown eyes pop. I love doing a simple, neutral makeup look and adding this bright blue eyeliner on my waterline. If you have brown eyes, I’d highly recommend buying a blue eyeliner like this.
Price: $8.58 CAD at ASOS
2. MAC Mineralize Blush in Warm Soul
In my first blog post, I mentioned that this blush wasn’t that special. However, I found myself reaching for this a lot this month. I think it’s a great blush to use when you have no idea which blush to use. It’s a warm pink blush with a sheen that adds a nice warmth and glow to the cheeks.
Price: $32 CAD at MAC Cosmetics
3. Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Bit of Berry
I was eying Mac Captive lipstick, but did some Google searching and discovered that this colour is an exact dupe for the shade: Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Bit of Berry.
This isn’t the most summery shade, but it’s the perfect pink+purple colour. It suits my skin tone really well and it pairs nicely with NARS Sin blush. To make it more wearable, I mix it with a certain MAC lipstick, which goes into my next favourite…
Price: $9.99 at well.ca
4. MAC Jubilee Lipstick
I feel like I may have mentioned this in a blog post before, but MAC Jubilee is one of my favourite MAC lipsticks. It’s not something I wear on its own, but it’s the perfect lipstick to use to make a bold lip (or any lipstick really) more wearable. I usually layer MAC Jubilee on top of other lipsticks to make the colour more muted.
I’m not a big lipgloss person, so this is like my pseudo lipgloss. Since MAC Jubilee is a lustre finish, it adds a bit of glossiness to the lips, but without looking too obnoxious — and it feels a lot more comfortable than lipgloss too!
Price: $19 CAD at MAC Cosmetics
5. Jo Malone Wild Bluebell Cologne
Check out my little sample size in this picture lolololol. UGH. Why do I love this so much? To be honest, I’m not much of a perfume girl. Actually, I have never purchased a full-size perfume in my life. Instead, I have an excessive collection of these tiny sample sizes stuffed inside an empty B&BW candle. I own over 40 little perfume samples and I rotate between them all. Some I like, some I don’t. But this one, I love.
Oh, Wild Bluebell, how you have won my heart. But why oh why must you be so stinkin’ expensive?! -_- I always considered myself to be a citrus-fruity girl when it came to scents, so I’m actually surprised that I like this so much. I’m not a big fan of floral, but this scent is very light and almost has some sort of melon component to it.
I was in Holt Renfrew to visit the Aesop counter and as I was leaving, Jo Malone was on the way so I stopped by. The lady at the counter gave me a bunch of samples to try. I told her I like citrus scents, but she insisted that I give Wild Bluebell a shot. How did she know I’d like this?!
This sample size has lasted me about 2 weeks. I’m almost nearing the end and I’m not sure what to do when it’s all done. To purchase or not to purchase? Hmm… :(
Price: $67 CAD at Nordstrom
The Miss
1. Maybelline Mega Plush Deep Velvets Volum’ Express Mascara in Navy Velvet
I bought this mascara because I wanted a blue mascara. Unfortunately, this did not look blue at all. :( Maybe if you have blonde lashes, this could show up blue on you, but since my lashes are black, this didn’t work for me.
It would have been nice if this mascara was double-ended, with one mascara being white (which you would apply first, like a primer) and the second mascara being the blue.
If anyone can recommend a good blue mascara to me (preferably an affordable one), please let me know!
That’s A Wrap!
To my Muslim readers, Ramadan Mubarak! Hope this month is a blessed one for you. Oh, and try not to eat your lipstick while fasting. ;)
